pound class

I've been slacking when it comes to running lately- I've been signing up for all of these barre classes instead and then I'm too tired to move, never mind run. But tomorrow I have no classes and I AM going to run.

I went to a pound class last night. It's really cool- each set of moves is coordinated to a song, and the type of moves you do changes with every song. There are core songs, cardio songs, legs songs, and butt ones. You're given these two little drum sticks that you pound the ground with. Pretty cool and definitely tiring. We were all lying on the ground in piles of sweat at the end. I love workouts like these- you know you're getting in everything you need in one 45 minute class. I'm going to try it next Wednesday again. It can get a little tricky to keep up since the moves go so so quickly and there's very little time to explain, since you're tied to the song, so I think going again will help.

Tonight's another barre class, tomorrow is a run day!

advice

don't eat a cannoli 20 minutes before heading to hot yoga.

cannoli + heat + yoga = NO FUN

yoga was great, but i am beat. man was that a hard class. AMAZING core sequence though, definitely felt like it was worth going, cannoli or not.

weekend recap

Saturday I went to a barre class and man was it hard!! Great workout though and I felt like there was a really good leg sequence- always a good way to work on your leg muscles when you're not running.

Yesterday I just did a short short run on the treadmill. 2 miles and that was it. I know for a lot of people that's just a warm up, but both miles were under 10 minutes for me so I was really pushing it. Tonight I have yoga, but I might go for a run outside before hand, otherwise I'm going to *try* to wake up and run Tuesday morning.

miles sneak up on you

It's pretty crazy how quickly miles can sneak up on you. I was tracking how much I walked yesterday on mapmyrun (I got bored at work... classic), and I was shocked to find out that I walked well over 4 miles! And I figured out that my daily walk to work is about 3/4 of a mile in each direction. I know it doesn't count towards my running mileage, but it makes me feel good that I'm fitting in this walking.

I'm curious to track how much I walk when I'm back at school this fall. Running from class to practice to meals- I bet that will really add up!

Running tonight, barre class tomorrow. Will update afterwards!

thank you

Today, on my way from the train to work, I was walking past a construction site. Of course, the clouds decided to rain for the ten minutes I had to walk outside (literally started raining as I left the train station, and by the time I walked up the four flights to my office, it had stopped already...). But, as I was walking past the construction site, a man working there said from across the street, "Good morning" and then offered me an umbrella he had in his hand. I already had a rain jacket (planning ahead for once in my life), but the gesture really hit home for me.

He didn't need to even say good morning or offer the umbrella, but he did both and made my day. I know he'll never see this, but it's a good reminder to try to do something nice for a stranger once every day.

A quick update on the water intake: it's getting better! I try to keep the water bottle on my desk filled all day long, so that I drink from it more.

I'm running this afternoon when I get home, probably on the treadmill unless the rain stops. I'm aiming for 1.5 miles continuous, walk for .25 - .5 miles, then another 1.5 miles continuos. We shall see how it goes. Hopefully there's a good TV show on- I really can't run inside without some form of distraction since I can't check out all the cars driving by me!

barre fusion

Wooh- I went to a hard barre fusion class last night. But I was happy because it was barre fusion, so that means we don't actually use the barre. Nothing better than getting in a good workout while lying on your back. Although I seriously think that doing legs on the mat is harder than at the barre. I'm so impressed with some of the women who are there- they're older than me and absolutely KILLING it. I always do the pushups from my knees, but some of them can really rock real, full-out pushups.

I'm going to try to fit in a run this afternoon. I'm hoping for 3 miles total, running 15 minutes straight. We'll see how it goes...

workout 12

(Its really more than workout 12, but i'm only counting the ones I write about here!)

Today I ran for 15 minutes straight, walked for 3 minutes, and ran for another 10 minutes. It was on a treadmill- my first treadmill run. I definitely prefer running outside- especially out and back runs. It just seemed so tempting to stop or slow down, although it was nice to be able to watch some tv at the same time ;). On the treadmill, I'm able to set my pace, so I can't go too fast. I kept it a 10 minute mile, which I know is slow for some, but fast for me.

Tomorrow I'm taking a barre class, at barren9ne. I'm excited to get in some shoulder and arm work.  As much as I'm getting into running, barre is still my favorite workout. But I know I can't do that once I'm back at school, so I'm trying to keep a good balance. I'm planning on running again Wednesday night- hopefully 2 x 15 minutes with a short break in between.
